- Review credentials & licenses: Ensure a vendor is properly licensed and/or certified in their field (attorney bar member, certified specialties, landman certifications, etc.)
- Ask about area experience: Inquire specifically about experience in the state(s) where your minerals are located. State law is primarily what rules in oil and gas.
- Request references: Ask for references from previous clients. Think twice if there is any hesitation on their part.
- Understand fee structures: Get clear information upfront about fee structure (hourly, flat fee, etc.), and what services are included.
